My name is Philippe Papadimitriou, and I am the proud owner of L'Etoile, a charming guesthouse nestled between the Lozère and Ardèche regions, deep in the heart of the southern French mountains. Here, in a beautifully preserved natural setting far away from the hustle and bustle of city life, I have the absolute pleasure of welcoming travelers seeking tranquility, nature, and genuine authenticity. They come to share unforgettable moments in a warm and deeply friendly atmosphere.

Years ago, I launched a unique project that is particularly close to my heart: an international exchange program between innkeepers and owners of similar establishments. This initiative has successfully brought together wonderful hosts from the United States, Canada, Australia, Poland, Morocco, and beyond. These reciprocal stays, lasting just a few days, provide us with the incredible opportunity to discover exceptional places while forging meaningful bonds. Marked by deep generosity and sharing, these experiences have allowed us to form lasting friendships and profoundly enrich our professional practices as hosts.

My Proposal:
I warmly invite you to stay at my guesthouse, L'Etoile, in exchange for an equivalent stay at your establishment (whether it be a B&B, a farm inn, a hotel, or a guest house). My offer includes half-board: a hearty, convivial dinner served at our lively guest table, a restful night in a spacious and comfortable room, and a delicious breakfast to start your day right. This exchange is a fantastic opportunity to travel affordably, discover stunning new regions, and share our personal and professional experiences in a highly welcoming setting.

About L'Etoile
L'Etoile is a former holiday hotel built in the 1930s, completely and lovingly renovated to offer modern comfort while retaining its timeless, old-world charm. The house is surrounded by a peaceful garden bordering the Allier River. It enjoys an exceptional location in the village of La Bastide-Puylaurent, standing at an altitude of 1,024 meters in the northern Cévennes mountains.

We serve healthy, generous family-style cuisine, prepared exclusively with local products and shared at our communal guest table in a highly convivial atmosphere. For nature and adventure enthusiasts, we offer extensive hiking and biking routes suited for all levels, allowing you to fully explore the region's majestic landscapes. If you simply prefer to rest, our shaded park, sunny terrace, and bright conservatory are the perfect places to rejuvenate.

A Rich and Preserved Region
Located right at the gateway to the Cévennes National Park, L'Etoile is the ideal starting point for exploring a region of breathtaking beauty. Nearby, Mont Lozère rises to 1,700 meters, offering spectacular panoramic views of authentic, wild terrain.

Our area is traversed by several of the most famous long-distance hiking trails (GR) in France:

The GR®70, famously known as the Stevenson Trail, immortalized by the Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson in his classic book, Travels with a Donkey in the Cévennes. Stevenson even stopped in La Bastide-Puylaurent and stayed at the nearby Notre-Dame des Neiges Abbey, a place deeply steeped in history.
The GR®700, also known as the Regordane Way, which closely follows an ancient and historically significant medieval trading route.
The GR®7 and GR®72, along with numerous stunning loop circuits such as the Tour of the Cévenol, the Tanargue, the Margeride, and the Ardèche Mountains.

Lozère remains a relatively unknown and highly preserved region, entirely free from mass tourism, where pristine nature, heritage, and history perfectly intertwine. You will discover picturesque villages like La Garde-Guérin—classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France—alongside Pradelles and Châteauneuf-de-Randon, each rich in medieval architecture and fascinating legends.

This untamed land is marked by dramatic stories that have fundamentally shaped French history: the fierce Camisard rebellions, the bitter conflicts between Catholics and Protestants, and the terrifying legend of the Beast of Gévaudan. The rugged Romanesque chapels and imposing 11th and 12th-century castles stand today as proud testaments to a past that still feels very much alive.
